Coffee is great, but I also love switching it up with a healthy iced matcha latte. This delicious caffeine alternative gives you the boost of energy you desire without the jitters!

To most people, this green drink looks a little odd and somewhat unpleasant. I PROMISE you, it tastes delicious and is packed with simple, yet healthy ingredients. Give it a try!
What is Matcha?
Matcha is finely ground green tea leaves. There are so many different brands of matcha out there and they are NOT all created equal.

It’s important to purchase high quality matcha, preferably organic. My favorite matcha is from Aiya. It’s a ceremonial grade matcha that tastes really fresh. I’m out of this brand at the moment, so I’ve been using Thrive Market’s matcha, which isn’t too bad either.
If your matcha isn’t fresh, it will smell fishy and have a muddy look to it. I know, that sounds pretty gross, so stay away from cheap matcha powders!
Health Benefits of Matcha
There are different health benefits associated with green tea or matcha. Some of the most popular include weight loss support, cancer fighting agents, and a reduction in heart disease. Checkout Dr. Axe’s post for additional info.

I personally drink matcha latte’s because I like how it gives me a steady flow of energy instead of a dramatic spike and drop like coffee.
Coffee tends to give me the jitters, especially if it’s a strong brew. I naturally tend to be a nervous person, so I like how matcha gives me a gradual and steady boost of energy.
Healthy sweetener for iced matcha lattes

You can sweeten your iced matcha with a simple syrup or honey if you’re not watching your sugar intake, but for this recipe, I decided to keep it on the lighter side. Instead of using a high sugar sweetener, I opted to use my favorite liquid stevia.
I really like the brand NuNaturals because it tastes good, it doesn’t have too many additives, and it’s alcohol free. Most liquid sweeteners contain sugar alcohols which are hard for the body to digest.
Tools you may need

Aside from a cup to combine your ingredients, you will also need a handheld milk frother. I love my milk frother because it blends all the ingredients rather quickly and it’s easy to clean.
If you don’t have a milk frother, use a small whisk or even a fork. You just want to make sure you blend the matcha base until it’s completely emulsified. If you don’t, your drink with be clumpy.
Ingredients for healthy iced matcha latte

- Matcha Powder: Ceremonial grade and organic
- Milk/Milk Alternative: Cow’s milk, almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, etc.
- Liquid Stevia
- Pumpkin Pie Spice: I use this spice simply because I like the flavor it adds to my iced matcha lattes! If you don’t have pumpkin pie spice, you could always use cinnamon.

- Peppermint: This non-alcoholic peppermint flavoring is purely a personal choice. I love adding peppermint to my matcha lattes because it has a cooling effect that is so refreshing. Once again, I always try to use flavorings without sugar alcohols.

- Cocoa Butter: Cocoa butter is extremely flavorful and smells like chocolate. Yum! It’s also high in healthy fats and anti-oxidants. I use Anthony’s Cocoa Butter Wafers because the wafers are easier to melt.

- Collagen Peptides: I love Vital Protein’s Collagen Peptides because they dissolve in hot and cold water! Collagen is a popular supplement because it has been shown to promote healthy hair and nails, as well as heal the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. Since I have stomach problems, I try to use collagen as much as possible.

- Spirulina: This supplement does not taste good lol, which is why I only use 1/2 a teaspoon in my recipe. I use Spirulina because it is high in Vitamin B, high in anti-oxidants, and has been shown to lower “bad” cholesterol. Click here for more info.
